A chemical company wanted us to provide a way of taking samples safely from inside of a pressurized mixing vessel during operation to test the consistency of the mixture.
Application: Sampler For Mixing Vessel
The proposed design featured a large ATEX rated (high explosion risk atmosphere, so ATEX rating was necessary) ball valve which would act as an airlock so a testing lance could be inserted inside, a sample could be taken, then safely withdrawn.
This meant a operator could safely take a sample without opening any of the vessel doors or halting operation. The design also featured additional safety features that would stop the sampling lance from being blown out of the vessel (potentially injuring the operator). Materials and standard parts that adhered to ATEX standards had to be selected for this one, as well as being chemically inert. This job never went ahead but the design is complete and functional.
