Josh Jenkins is DRB’s Manufacturing and Planning Manager. He is responsible for planning the schedule for the machining jobs in our factory, not an easy task with more than 50 hand and CNC machines to organise.
What’s your DRB journey?
I joined DRB Group as an apprentice in September 2012. I attended Coleg Cambria during the week for my first year where I studied practical fundamental learning with various machinery and hand tools techniques.
My next three years were a combination of college and university-based learning as well as hands-on experience on-site at DRB’s factory. I developed my machining and mechanical fitting skills and spent time in each of the departments on 3-month cycles. I was awarded my Foundation Degree (FdEng) in Industrial Engineering in 2016.
I continued to improve my skills and progressed to Process Improvement Engineer and studied for a full BEng in Industrial Engineering from Glyndwr University.
More recently, I have enrolled to study a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management at Brunel University, London and have been promoted to Manufacturing & Planning Manager.
What are you highlights so far?
I’ve been recognised with several industry awards, including
- Manufacture Engineering Learner of the Year in 2015
- Regional Outstanding Achievement by a First Year Apprenticeship in 2013
- Flintshire Business Awards Apprentice of the Year in 2013
- NTFW’s Foundation Apprentice of the Year in 2013
I’ve also worked on some really high-profile projects in the pharmaceutical, rail, and chemical industries.
What do you do outside of work?
I enjoy playing football and socialising with friends.
