The team at DRB have recently been working on a water pump which required a complete overhaul. The SPP multistage pump is crucial to our client’s operations as it supplies water to thousands of homes across the region.
The project involved our team removing the water pump onsite before transporting it back to DRB and stripping it down completely.
The job was particularly complex as the pump would originally have been designed to run horizontally. It had been adapted by the original manufacturer to run vertically and although it had been functioning vertically, when stripped back our engineers discovered there were issues with the adaptation. This made the job more challenging than a typical overhaul.
We manufactured a new shaft and replaced key parts such as impellers, bearings and mechanical seals. The pump was then transported back to site and refitted into a bespoke frame which had previously been designed and manufactured by our engineers.
With the water supply of thousands of homes dependent on a spare pump while we were completing the work, the DRB team worked extremely hard to ensure the job was turned around as quickly as possible!
Overhauling and re-installing the pump, rather than ordering a bespoke replacement, meant cost savings running into thousands of pounds for this customer.
At DRB we are often able to repair or refurbish machinery and pride ourselves on our speedy turnaround times. In many cases our engineers can complete the necessary work in less time than it would take to order a brand-new replacement.
