Congratulations Connor McAulay!

Connor was recently highly commended in the Apprentice Endeavour Award category at the Make UK National Apprentice Awards. The national awards attract entries from all across the UK so this is a huge achievement.

Connor joined the DRB family back in 2016 as an apprentice and since then has consistently shown energy, commitment and an aptitude for engineering. He’s no stranger to awards either and has previously won the Apprentice of Year Award at the Flintshire in Business Awards.

His commitment to DRB, his apprenticeship and his career was demonstrated early on in his apprenticeship when he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He was unable to drive for a few months so cycled 16 miles a day in order to get to work while also getting to grips with his diagnosis. He completed all his assignments without any extensions and was awarded a distinction.

Connor is due to complete his apprenticeship this September but this won’t be the end of his time juggling working with studies, he is planning to continue studying for a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering and then a master’s in mechanical engineering.

Connor McAulay is one of a number of successful apprentices on our scheme. At DRB we first started recruiting apprentices over 25 years ago in response to the shortage of skilled workers within the engineering industry, since then we have supported many apprentices along their career journey and they have become key to our business.

We are always interested in hearing from those considering an engineering apprenticeship, especially those who can demonstrate some hands-on experience. Connor for example had already been helping his dad to repair and refurbish vehicles and was working in a local garage at weekends.

If you know someone who might be interested in an apprenticeship or are considering one yourself then get in touch.  It could be the beginning of a successful career.
